Tanzanite Gemstone

Tanzanite is a gemstone made of a chemical compound consisting of (Ca2Al3(SiO4)(Si2O7)O(OH)) mineral zoisite. It has a blue and purple color. This gemstone can be found northern Tanzania, hence its name.

This gorgeous gemstone is more valuable when cut. Its durability is somewhat lacking as it hardness is 6.5 on the Mohs scale.

In 2002, tanzanite was approved as a birthstone by U.S. gem associations, wherein it made the first change in more than 90 years to the modern birthstone chart. Tanzanite was listed as the birthstone of December.

As jewelry, this magnificent gemstone is often used as ring stone. Tanzanite is often heated to improve its color, which can range from sapphire blue, violet, and sage green.
